For this 2020 project NYOL ran targeted ads at the fifteen worst crossings in New York State. We based our decisions about which crossings to target using the Federal Railroad Administrations Accident Predictive Value. We partnered with both passenger railroads (Long Island Rail Road and Metro North Commuter Railroad) as well as fright lines like CSX and the New York Susquehanna and Western. Help from the NYS Department of Transportation rail safety officials was very important to this public awareness campaign as well. Ads like the one below were seen by New Yorkers over 4 million times.
